An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established regional main contractor based in the East Midlands.

Our client has built an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects across the Education, Healthcare, Residential, Commercial, and Public Sector sectors. With a strong order book of secured work and continued business growth, they are now looking to strengthen their commercial team by appointing a commercially driven Senior Quantity Surveyor based from their Nottingham office.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take ownership of the commercial and contractual management of projects from pre-construction through to final account. You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered profitably while providing commercial leadership to both project and site teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the commercial management of allocated construction projects.
  • Prepare, monitor, and report on project budgets and cost forecasts.
  • Procure, negotiate, and appoint subcontractors.
  • Value and authorise subcontractor applications for payment.
  • Prepare and submit interim valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs, variations, change control, and commercial risk.
  • Produce accurate financial reports in line with company procedures.
  • Administer construction contracts, including JCT and NEC forms.
  • Manage contractual correspondence and issue relevant notices.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
  • Support commercial negotiations and dispute resolution where required.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners.

Education, Skills and Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor with a recognised main contractor.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering construction projects valued between £5m and £20m.
  • Strong understanding of JCT and NEC forms of contract.
  • Excellent commercial awareness with strong negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and commercial/cost management software.
