Senior Quantity Surveyor

RTL Group Ltd

An established, self-delivering groundworks and civil engineering contractor in the North West is looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join on a temp to perm basis.

This Senior Quantity Surveyor role is hands-on and suits someone who wants to put practical commercial controls in place that people actually use. You will report directly to the Directors and take ownership of projects from pre-construction and tendering through to live project control, CVRs and final accounts.

The Senior Quantity Surveyor Role

  • Help put one consistent commercial process in place so estimating, surveying, operations, accounts and the Directors all work from the same information
  • Support tender reviews with the estimating team, identify risks and opportunities, and assist with client clarifications and negotiations
  • Review JCT, NEC and amended contracts before signature, covering payment terms, LADs, design responsibility, bonds, warranties and onerous clauses
  • Run a clear tender-to-project handover and set every job up correctly from day one, including budgets, cost codes, procurement, application dates, variation registers and notice requirements
  • Manage variations, compensation events, early warnings, EOTs and claims as they arise rather than months later
  • Produce monthly CVRs and give the Directors a straightforward view of margin, cash and risk on live projects
  • Procure subcontract and supply packages, and push applications, variations and final accounts through to agreement
  • Use Valesco so live costs and historic rates feed back into future tenders
  • Support and mentor junior QS and estimating staff

About You

As Senior Quantity Surveyor you will already be working at Senior Quantity Surveyor level or above within groundworks or civil engineering, ideally in a self-delivery environment.

  • Strong working knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts
  • Experienced in CVRs, forecasting, procurement, tendering, claims and contract administration
  • Confident guiding and developing less experienced surveyors
  • Practical and commercially sharp, comfortable reporting at Director level

What Success Looks Like

Within the first few months, the new Senior Quantity Surveyor will have every live project reviewed and correctly set up, a consistent monthly CVR process running and clear reporting to the Directors with no surprises.

This is a strong opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to have real influence in a growing contractor rather than inherit someone else's system.
