Location: Elephant & Castle, London
Salary: Up to £85,000 per annum
Working Pattern: Hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 days working from home)
About the Role
Our client, a leading global consultancy, is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their growing infrastructure team working on one of the UK's most significant rail projects, HS2.
This position will be focused on the delivery of works at Old Oak Common Gateway Station, supporting the complex infrastructure and track-laying elements of the project.
Working within a multidisciplinary project team, you will support the successful delivery of this flagship programme from a commercial and contractual perspective, providing expert guidance on NEC contracts and ensuring robust financial governance is maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, joint venture partners, and key stakeholders.
- Support project teams in establishing commercial strategies, contract administration, and risk management processes.
- Manage procurement activities including tender preparation, tender assessments, commercial evaluations, and award recommendations.
- Prepare and administer Early Warnings, Compensation Events, and Project Manager Instructions under NEC contracts.
- Undertake cost assurance activities and assess applications for payment.
- Monitor project expenditure against budgets, forecasts, and approved cost plans.
- Prepare, update, and manage project cashflow forecasts.
- Produce accurate commercial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in risk reduction meetings and provide commercial input to project delivery teams.
- Assist in the preparation of contractual correspondence and commercial responses.
- Support dispute avoidance and resolution activities where required.
- Attend financial, commercial, and project progress meetings.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, governance procedures, and relevant legislation.
- Conduct site visits to verify progress, assess compensation events, and validate contractor claims.
- Maintain accurate records of all commercial and contractual activities.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience operating as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within major infrastructure or rail projects.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience administering NEC contracts.
- Excellent commercial management, cost control, and forecasting skills.
- Experience managing Compensation Events, Early Warnings, and change control processes.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Able to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience working for a main contractor or joint venture (JV) environment.
- Previous experience on major rail, transportation, or civil engineering projects.
- Knowledge of FIDIC contracts.
- Experience working within large-scale government-funded infrastructure programmes.
