Senior Social Worker

Hammersmith & Fulham | Locum | £39.04 per hour | Hybrid Working

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join their Assessment Team. This is a fast-paced frontline role focused on completing high-quality assessments, managing safeguarding concerns, and ensuring children and families receive timely and effective interventions.

You will work with children and families from the point of referral, undertaking assessments and progressing plans to safeguard children and improve outcomes through relationship-based practice.

In this role, you will:

• Undertake Child and Family Assessments
• Complete Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries and investigations
• Manage Child in Need and Child Protection cases during the assessment phase
• Assess risk and develop outcome-focused plans for children and families
• Undertake direct work with children to understand their lived experiences and needs
• Lead and participate in strategy discussions, core groups, and multi-agency meetings
• Progress cases through pre-proceedings and court processes where required
• Provide guidance and support to less experienced Social Workers within the team
• Prepare high-quality assessments, reports, and court documentation
• Maintain accurate and timely case recordings in line with statutory requirements

What You’ll Need:

• Social Work England Registration
• Social Work Qualification
• At least 3 years’ post-qualified experience in children’s social care
• Strong experience within Assessment, Referral & Assessment, or Duty services
• Child in Need and Child Protection experience
• Court work and pre-proceedings experience
• Ability to manage complex safeguarding cases confidently
• Strong assessment, analytical, and communication skills
• Experience supporting or mentoring colleagues within a team environment
