The Job You Will Do:

  • Coordinate technical information from manufacturing sites and supply chain partners to produce accurate product specifications and product labels.
  • Create and maintain product specifications using a right-first-time approach, ensuring they meet customer expectations, legislative requirements and internal quality standards.
  • Assist with new product development by preparing sample specifications and supporting artwork reviews, labelling activities and product approval processes.
  • Control specification updates through established change management procedures, obtaining the necessary approvals and communicating changes to relevant stakeholders.
  • Handle customer technical enquiries by sourcing product information from internal departments and providing clear, accurate and professional responses.
  • Provide support for certification processes, including Halal, Kosher, Organic and other applicable product accreditations.
  • Track updates to customer specifications and UK/EU food legislation, communicating changes and evaluating their impact on products and manufacturing processes.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance specification systems and procedures, driving improvements in compliance, accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate specification records and ensure product development databases remain up to date.
  • Collaborate with the wider specification team to create, review and maintain specifications and product labels across the full product range.

About you:

  • Degree qualified in Food Science or a related scientific discipline.
  • At least 5 years' experience developing and maintaining food product specifications within the food industry.
  • Demonstrated experience working with major UK retailers and their specification management systems.
  • Sound knowledge of food safety standards, HACCP methodology and quality management systems.
  • Good understanding of UK and/or EU food labelling regulations and legislative requirements.
  • Knowledge of food production processes, raw ingredients, allergen management and finished product specifications.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills, with a methodical and detail-focused approach.
