Looking for a role that combines technical variety, architectural excellence and genuine flexibility? Our client is an award-winning multidisciplinary consultancy bringing together talented architects and engineers to deliver high-quality, innovative design solutions across a diverse range of sectors.
Working with blue-chip clients, the practice delivers projects up to multi million pounds in value, across commercial, education, healthcare, hotels and leisure, custodial, residential, manufacturing, retail and financial developments.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join this established team. Whether seeking a full-time position, part-time work or a flexible role to suit semi-retirement, this opportunity offers the chance to remain actively involved in interesting projects while benefiting from the flexibility of home working.
The successful candidate will undertake structural inspections and assessments of existing buildings, evaluating their stability, integrity and suitability for alteration. Responsibilities will include identifying load-bearing elements, assessing proposed structural changes and recommending appropriate strengthening solutions where required.
Working closely with clients, the role will involve understanding project requirements, advising on practical and cost-effective design solutions, and ensuring proposed alterations comply with relevant building regulations and safety standards. The engineer will also prepare detailed technical reports covering structural findings, recommendations and estimated costs, communicating these clearly to clients and stakeholders.
Additional responsibilities will include coordinating approved modification works, liaising with contractors, monitoring progress against specifications and budgets, and identifying potential structural risks with appropriate mitigation measures.
Applicants should have a minimum of 5 years' structural engineering experience and ideally be a Chartered Member of IStructE or ICE, or working towards chartership. A design-focused approach, an appreciation of good architecture and a commitment to sustainable engineering are essential.
Candidates should be confident undertaking visual structural inspections and producing clear, accurate technical reports. A strong understanding of building regulations, construction methods and structural design principles is required, alongside experience using structural analysis software such as Tekla Structural Designer and TEDDS, as well as AutoCAD.
Excellent communication, organisational and project management skills are important, together with a meticulous approach to technical accuracy and building safety.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected multidisciplinary practice, work on a varied portfolio of projects and enjoy a more flexible approach to your structural engineering career.
