Senior Technical Engineer - Entrance Systems

Eligo Recruitment Ltd

Senior Technical Support Engineer
Ready to come off the tools without leaving engineering behind?

If you've spent years installing, commissioning or fault finding automated systems and you're looking for a better work/life balance, this could be exactly the move you've been waiting for.

We're recruiting a Senior Technical Support Engineer to join a leading manufacturer within the automation and access control industry. Rather than spending your days travelling between customer sites, you'll become one of the company's go-to technical experts, supporting installers, customers and colleagues from their UK headquarters.

Salary: £40,000 - £43,000
Location: Basingstoke (Office Based)
Hours: Monday to Friday

The Role

This is a varied technical position where you'll use your product knowledge and troubleshooting skills every day.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Providing technical support to installers, distributors and customers via telephone and email
  • Diagnosing faults and providing practical solutions
  • Advising on installation, programming and commissioning
  • Supporting product selection and specifications
  • Delivering technical training to customers and internal teams
  • Producing technical documentation and training materials
  • Providing technical support to the sales team
  • Mentoring junior Technical Support Engineers
  • Occasionally visiting customers when required

This is a fantastic opportunity to become a recognised technical specialist whilst enjoying a much better work/life balance than a traditional field-based role.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced engineer with a strong background in automation or electro-mechanical products who enjoys solving technical problems and sharing their knowledge with others.

You'll ideally have experience in:

  • Installing, commissioning and fault finding automated systems
  • Programming and configuring control boards and automation equipment
  • Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults both on-site and remotely
  • Working with gate automation, automatic doors, barriers, bollards or other vehicle access systems
  • Reading wiring diagrams and technical documentation
  • Supporting customers, installers or engineers with technical issues

You'll also have:

  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
  • A customer-focused approach and a genuine desire to help others
  • Confidence prioritising technical enquiries in a busy environment
  • The ability to learn new products quickly and become a technical expert

Experience delivering telephone-based technical support, providing technical training, creating technical documentation or supporting a sales team would be highly advantageous but isn't essential.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who's ready to use your technical expertise in a predominantly office-based role, whilst enjoying a better work/life balance without stepping away from engineering.

You'll be particularly well suited if you've worked with products such as gate automation, automatic doors, barriers, bollards, parking systems, industrial doors, access control or other electro-mechanical automation equipment.

Why Apply?

This role offers something many experienced engineers are looking for:

  • Monday to Friday working
  • Office-based role with minimal travel
  • No call-out rota
  • Home every evening
  • Less physical work
  • The opportunity to become a recognised technical expert
  • Genuine long-term career progression
  • A supportive and collaborative technical team

If you're ready to swap motorway miles and emergency call-outs for a role where your knowledge is valued every day, we'd love to hear from you.
