Senior Transport Planner

Loom Talent

Job Title: Senior Transport Planner

Location: Wakefield (on-site)

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 Depending on Experience

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent, Monday to Friday

Loom Talent is recruiting a Senior Transport Planner on behalf of a well-established national home and interiors retailer, at their Wakefield distribution site.

This is a hands-on planning role within a busy transport team, reporting into the Transport Planning Manager and working alongside three other planners to coordinate the efficient, cost-effective and compliant movement of product to customers across the UK.

What you'll be doing:

  • Planning and scheduling daily vehicle routes and loads as part of the wider planning team, liaising with hauliers and drivers to secure capacity and resolve day-to-day issues.
  • Sharing knowledge and best practice with fellow planners, and supporting the Transport Planning Manager with more complex or higher-priority routes.
  • Working closely with warehouse, procurement and customer service teams to align dispatch with stock availability and order priorities.
  • Monitoring delivery performance and compliance (DVSA, drivers' hours, H&S), flagging exceptions and keeping the team informed.

What we're looking for:

  • Proven experience in a transport planning or logistics scheduling role, ideally within retail, distribution or manufacturing
  • Strong working knowledge of UK transport compliance (drivers' hours, DVSA regulations, Working Time Directive), plus confident use of transport/routing software and Excel
  • Good communication and team-working skills, comfortable collaborating with hauliers, drivers and colleagues across the business.
  • A proactive, organised, hands-on approach suited to a fast-paced distribution environment.

Why apply:

  • Join a well-established, growing retailer with a strong reputation in its market
  • Part of an established four-person planning team with a clear reporting line into the Transport Planning Manager.
  • Monday to Friday working.
  • Competitive salary of £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience.
  • Stable, permanent position with a business investing in its logistics operation.
