Shift Engineer

We’re working with an established and successful organisation that is looking for an experienced engineer to join its Engineering team.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll play an important part in keeping plant, machinery and production equipment operating safely and efficiently, working closely with both Engineering and Production colleagues.
The Role Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you’ll be responsible for supporting both planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance, helping to minimise equipment downtime and keep production running smoothly.
You’ll have a varied workload covering routine machinery checks, repairs, breakdown response and general maintenance across electrical and mechanical equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across plant and machinery
- Respond proactively to equipment faults and breakdowns
- Carry out electrical and mechanical maintenance and repairs
- Undertake regular daily, weekly and monthly machinery checks
- Identify and implement solutions to minimise production downtime
- Work closely with Production teams to ensure maintenance work causes minimal disruption
- Follow safe systems of work and all relevant health & safety procedures
- Support engineering and production staff with training where required
- Assist with health, safety and environmental audits
- Support risk assessments, permits to work, COSHH and PUWER assessments
- Maintain accurate engineering and health & safety records
- Attend major breakdown call-outs when required
- Provide additional shift cover during periods of annual leave, sickness or training
- Contribute to maintaining a clean, safe and efficient working environment
- Support continuous improvement and general engineering activities across the site
About You We’re looking for an experienced maintenance engineer who can work confidently in a fast-paced production environment.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience as a Shift Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Multi-Skilled Engineer or similar
- Strong hands-on experience in electrical and/or mechanical maintenance
- Experience within a manufacturing, production, plant or similar environment
- Experience carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving ability
- A proactive approach to preventing machinery downtime
- Good understanding of workplace health & safety
- Experience with risk assessments, safe systems of work and/or PUWER/COSHH would be advantageous
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Production and Engineering teams
- Flexibility to work different shifts and provide additional cover when required
- A willingness to attend occasional breakdown call-outs
