Shift Lead Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Shift Lead Engineer with an Electrical Bias to join a prestigious client based in the heart of the City of London on a temp-to-perm basis.
We are seeking a highly motivated, self-sufficient, and technically skilled individual with strong leadership qualities and a proactive approach to facilities maintenance. This role offers the opportunity to work within a professional and experienced engineering team, delivering exceptional building maintenance services within a high-profile commercial environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support a team of engineers during shift operations.
  • Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and Reactive Maintenance tasks.
  • Respond to emergency callouts and critical incidents.
  • Ensure all plant and building services are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Manage and supervise subcontractors, ensuring compliance with site procedures and health & safety requirements.
  • Review and approve permits, RAMS, and contractor documentation.
  • Complete maintenance records, logbooks, and compliance documentation.
  • Attend client meetings and provide technical support where required.
  • Conduct emergency lighting testing and associated compliance checks.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot UPS systems and associated control systems.
  • Carry out electrical maintenance, including lighting, power, wiring, testing, fire alarm systems, BMS interfaces, and associated building services equipment.
  • Support the management of building systems including HVAC and heat exchanger equipment.
Requirements
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Electrical Qualification or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a Shift Lead or Senior Engineer position within a commercial building environment.
  • Strong understanding of Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Experience with critical building services and electrical infrastructure.
  • Ability to remain calm and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and client-facing abilities.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating planned works.
  • Good understanding of compliance procedures, RAMS, and permit systems.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including participation in shift patterns and call-out rotas where required.
