Hays Engineering

Your new company
Our client is a long-established and highly successful food manufacturing business with a strong reputation for quality, innovation, and customer service. Operating from a large production facility in North Yorkshire, they supply products to major UK retailers, food service providers and hospitality customers nationwide.
As a privately owned organisation, they have maintained a supportive and people-focused culture while continuing to invest heavily in their facilities, equipment, and workforce. With a stable and growing operation, they offer employees the opportunity to work within a modern manufacturing environment where continuous improvement, teamwork, and professional development are actively encouraged.

Your new role
As a Shift Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining a wide range of production and site equipment within a busy manufacturing environment. Working as part of a supportive engineering team, your duties will include carrying out planned preventative maintenance, responding to breakdowns, electrical and mechanical fault-finding, equipment installations, and continuous improvement projects.

This is a rotating shift position working:

  • 06:00-14:00 Monday to Friday
  • 14:00-22:00 Sunday to Thursday
  • 22:00-06:00 Sunday to Thursday
  • The salary is £49,474, with overtime paid at 1.5x on Saturdays and 2x on Sundays. Weekend overtime is typically required one weekend in five, with additional overtime opportunities available.

What you'll need to succeed

  • To be successful in this role, you will have experience maintaining and fault-finding industrial production equipment within a manufacturing environment. Whilst an electrical bias would be advantageous, the business is equally open to considering strong, mechanically biased or genuinely multi-skilled engineers with a good understanding of electrical systems and the willingness to further develop their skills.
    You will ideally have:
  • Experience working with electrical systems up to 415V
  • Knowledge of three-phase electrical systems
  • Mechanical maintenance experience including hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, gearboxes and drive systems
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Experience balancing planned maintenance, projects and reactive breakdown work
  • Relevant engineering qualifications or apprenticeship training
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • A flexible and hands-on approach to engineering
  • Food manufacturing experience, 18th Edition qualifications, and inspection and testing certifications would be advantageous but are not essential.

In return, you'll receive:

  • Basic salary of £49,474
  • Overtime rates of 1.5x on Saturdays and 2x on Sundays
  • Additional overtime opportunities available
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities
  • The chance to work within a supportive and experienced engineering team
  • Exposure to a broad range of electrical and mechanical maintenance activities
  • Long-term career prospects within a successful and growing manufacturing business
  • The opportunity to take ownership and responsibility from day one within a market-leading organisation
