Shift Team Leader - Energy from Waste Power Station

SCINERGY Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Shift Team Leader to join an operational Energy from Waste power station in Gloucestershire.
This established facility operates around the clock, recovering energy from residual waste and playing an important role in the region's waste and resource management infrastructure.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a modern EFW plant in a key operational leadership role. As Shift Team Leader, you will be responsible for safe, efficient and compliant plant operations while leading and developing a shift team.
The role will involve overseeing plant operations, managing operational matters arising on shift and acting as a key decision-maker outside normal office hours.
The Role
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and supervising the shift team within a 24-hour operational environment
- Taking responsibility for operational matters arising during the shift and providing leadership outside normal office hours
- Acting as Senior Authorised Person and ensuring site safety rules, permits and safe systems of work are applied correctly
- Managing emergency situations and coordinating the response with internal stakeholders and emergency services
- Ensuring the facility operates in line with design criteria, planning conditions, environmental permits and safety requirements
- Promoting a strong safety culture and maintaining high standards of plant housekeeping
- Monitoring waste acceptance and ensuring non-conforming waste is managed appropriately
- Ensuring facility inputs and outputs are processed accurately, safely and efficiently
- Conducting performance reviews and providing coaching, guidance and competence development to team members
- Producing detailed incident reports, shift logs and operational performance data
- Maximising plant availability, efficiency and reliability while delivering effective handovers and covering other Shift Team Leaders when required
About You
You will ideally have:
- Shift Team Leader / Shift Manager experience within a power generation environment or similar or as a time-served as a senior Royal Navy Engineer
- Experience working in demanding, fast-paced and safety-critical operational environments
- Proven leadership experience supervising and developing operational teams
- Senior Authorised Person experience, or the technical competence to fulfil SAP responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, safe systems of work and operational compliance requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate internal and external stakeholders
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with the confidence to remain calm under pressure
- A flexible and adaptable approach to working within a 24-hour shift system
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider operations and maintenance team
- Good IT skills and completion of relevant technical training and competency requirements
