Shipping Coordinator
Haverhill, Suffolk | Permanent, full time | £27,500 to £32,500 depending on experience, plus benefits
Some jobs you clock in and out of. Others give you a skill you can build a whole career on.
Crem Recruitment is working with a well-established global freight forwarder to find two Shipping Coordinators for its growing team in Haverhill.
You’d have the backing, stability and benefits of an international group, with the day-to-day feel of a small, close-knit local office. The team runs its own operation with real autonomy, close enough to the wider business to benefit from it, but not so close that anyone’s looking over your shoulder.
The office has grown quickly. Volumes have risen sharply, the client base is loyal and long-standing, and there are firm plans to build the team further over the next couple of years. Join now and you’ll grow with it.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be one of the people who keeps goods moving from the UK to customers around the world. A typical week could include:
- Booking containers with shipping lines
- Arranging collections and haulage to port
- Preparing export paperwork, including bills of lading, invoices and customs entries, all to deadline
- Tracking shipments and sorting out problems when they come up, such as delays or missed cut-offs
- Keeping customers, carriers and overseas colleagues up to date
- Handling some imports
- Helping to improve processes and support the wider team when things are quieter
The pace varies. Some weeks are busy, with plenty of containers to coordinate; others are calmer. It isn’t rocket science, but it rewards people who are organised, accurate and like getting things right the first time.
Who we’d like to hear from
There’s more than one route into this role, and the salary reflects your experience.
- Freight forwarders with export container experience, who know their way around bookings, bills of lading and customs entries.
- People from related backgrounds, such as shipping or export administration, transport planning, road freight, in-house logistics or supply chain. If you understand haulage or know what a bill of lading is, you’ll pick this up quickly.
- Strong administrators ready for a career change. If you have no shipping experience but you’re highly organised, detail-focused and want to learn a genuine trade, full training is available. Any age, any background.
Whichever route fits, you’ll be calm under pressure, careful with data and deadlines, and happy to take ownership of your work.
What’s on offer
- £27,500 to £32,500 depending on experience
- 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
- Company pension
- Optional private healthcare
- Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:30
- Proper training and a clear career path in an industry people tend to stay in for life
Please note this is an office-based role, so it suits people who live within a comfortable commute of Haverhill, such as Cambridge, Saffron Walden, Bury St Edmunds, Sudbury, Newmarket or Braintree.
