Site / Setting-Out Engineer – Civil Engineering & Groundworks

Monday–Friday, 07:30–17:30

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site / Setting-Out Engineer to join an established and growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor on a major project in Southwark, London.

The contractor is delivering the civil engineering and groundworks package alongside a major main contractor under an NEC4 subcontract.

The package covers a broad range of works including site clearance, bulk and detailed excavation, surface water and foul drainage, utilities, reinforced concrete structures, substation works, block paving and asphalt surfacing.

The Role

Reporting to the Site Manager, you will provide setting-out, levels, surveying and technical support across the project, ensuring all works are constructed accurately and in accordance with the relevant drawings, specifications and tolerances.

You will be responsible for setting out and levelling excavation works, drainage runs and invert levels, reinforced concrete foundations and slabs, lift pits, substation bases, utilities ducting, paving and associated external works.

Using total station and GPS equipment, you will establish and maintain accurate site control and ensure the works are delivered to the required line, level and specification.

You will interpret engineering drawings and specifications, checking dimensions, falls and levels and identifying and resolving discrepancies in conjunction with the Site Manager and design and technical teams.

Quality assurance will form an important part of the position. You will produce and maintain accurate QA records, including Inspection & Test Plan hold and witness points, concrete testing records, drainage test information and as-built survey data.

You will support CCTV and CBR testing and capture accurate as-built information for drawings, red-lines and O&M manuals ahead of final project handover.

The Engineer will also support the Site Manager with short-term programming, materials take-offs and technical information relating to RAMS and temporary works.

You will maintain site records using InnDex and assist with the coordination of utilities, subcontractors and other third-party interfaces throughout the project.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants should have previous experience working as a Site Engineer or Setting-Out Engineer on civil engineering and groundworks projects.

You should have strong setting-out experience across drainage, reinforced concrete structures, roads, paving and associated groundworks, together with a high level of accuracy in surveying and QA record keeping.

Candidates must be competent using total station and GPS equipment, ideally Leica and/or Trimble.

An HNC, HND, BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering is preferred, although candidates with equivalent and demonstrable setting-out experience will also be considered.

A valid CSCS card and full right to work in the UK are essential.

Additional qualifications including SSSTS, First Aid, Confined Spaces, EUSR and NRSWA would be advantageous.

ICE membership or candidates working towards IEng or CEng status would also be welcomed.

Previous experience using InnDex or similar Common Data Environment systems would be beneficial.

The Opportunity

The position offers a day rate of up to £300 per day, working Monday to Friday from 07:30–17:30.
