A well-established multi-million pound civils contractor is currently looking for an experienced Freelance Site Engineer to join their team on a major highways and infrastructure scheme in the Midlands.

This is a great opportunity for a Site Engineer with a strong background in highways, drainage and general civils, who is looking to work on a varied infrastructure project involving highway upgrades, road widenings, junction improvements and Section 278 works.

The Role

As Site Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical delivery of highways and civils work packages, working closely with the Site Agent, Project Manager and wider engineering team.

The project will involve a range of highways upgrades, road widening works, drainage installations and S278 improvements, giving you exposure to a broad range of civil engineering activities.

Key Responsibilities:

- Setting out and surveying highways and civil engineering works
- Providing technical support to the Site Agent and project team
- Setting out road widening and highway improvement works
- Setting out junction improvements and S278 works
- Setting out drainage, including gullies, carrier drains, manholes and associated connections
- Checking line, level and quality of completed works
- Reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
- Producing and maintaining accurate site records
- Completing ITPs, quality documentation and as-built information
- Carrying out QA checks and ensuring works are constructed to specification
- Working closely with subcontractors to ensure works are delivered correctly
- Supporting the preparation and review of RAMS
- Identifying technical issues and raising RFIs where required
- Liaising with the design team, Site Agent and Project Manager
- Ensuring all works comply with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements

Experience Required:

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as a Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer within a highways or civil engineering environment.

You should have good experience with:

- Highways construction and upgrades
- Road widening schemes
- S278 / Section 278 works
- Junction improvements
- Drainage installation
- Earthworks and general civils
- Setting out and surveying
- Reading engineering drawings
- QA, ITPs and as-built records
- Working with subcontractors and site teams

Candidates with experience working for Tier 1 or established civils contractors will be highly advantageous.

CSCS and relevant engineering/surveying qualifications are required, with SSSTS/SMSTS and highways experience being advantageous.
