Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage construction works on site, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.
- Promote and maintain the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environmental compliance across all site activities.
- Ensure all subcontractors comply with site standards, health & safety requirements and project specifications.
- Allocate labour and resources daily to ensure works are adequately resourced by competent personnel.
- Ensure all required plant, tools and materials are available, reporting shortages to the Site Agent or Project Manager.
- Review work documentation to ensure all information is suitable and sufficient for the planned activities.
- Accept and manage permits, ensuring they are included within work packs and issued to the relevant workforce.
- Carry out daily setting-to-work briefings with operatives, supervisors and subcontractors.
- Deliver and record Daily Activity Briefings, Pre-Start Briefings, Toolbox Talks and End-of-Shift Debriefs.
- Supervise operatives, supervisors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with all health & safety, environmental and quality procedures.
- Ensure all works are carried out under appropriate safe systems of work and that all required briefings have been completed.
- Review site records completed by operatives and supervisors, submitting documentation to the Site Agent as required.
- Assist the Site Agent with programming works, resource planning and plant/material requirements.
- Oversee plant deliveries, inspections, utilisation and associated documentation.
- Carry out regular Health, Safety and Environmental inspections and audits.
- Lead by example, promoting high standards of professionalism, safety and site conduct.
- Complete employee documentation, including Return to Work paperwork where required.
- Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation.
- Attend site progress meetings as required.
- Report all Health, Safety and Environmental incidents in accordance with company procedures.
Skills & Experience Required
- SSSTS or SMSTS.
- Valid CSCS Card.
- Proven experience as a General Foreman within civil engineering, highways or infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of earthworks, drainage, highways and structures.
- Previous experience managing site operatives and subcontractors.
- Good understanding of construction health & safety legislation and safe systems of work.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload and adapt to changing site requirements.
- Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
