About the Role

A growing construction business requires a diligent and experienced Site Manager for an 8-week contract on a school refurbishment project. The successful candidate ensures the smooth running of site operations, maintaining high standards of health and safety, quality, and timely delivery. This role demands a hands-on approach to managing resources, subcontractors, and compliance with statutory regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day site activities to ensure the project progresses according to schedule and budget.
  • Oversee subcontractors and site staff, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Implement and maintain strict health and safety procedures, complying with all relevant legislation and company policies.
  • Coordinate with client representatives, suppliers, and other stakeholders to resolve any site-related issues promptly.
  • Carry out regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and enforce control measures.
  • Ensure all site documentation, including daily reports, method statements, and risk assessments, is accurate and up to date.
  • Monitor and manage materials, plant, and equipment to optimise site efficiency.
  • Maintain effective communication channels across all levels to promote a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with asbestos management protocols on site.
Required Qualifications
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificate.
  • Valid Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
  • First Aid at Work certification.
  • Fire Marshall training.
  • Asbestos Awareness training.
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Education

While formal education is not the sole requirement, a relevant qualification in construction management or a related discipline is advantageous.

Experience
  • Proven experience managing refurbishment projects, specifically within educational or school environments.
  • Demonstrable track record of successful site management on similar contract assignments.
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining rigorous health and safety standards.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, techniques, and legal requirements relevant to refurbishment projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of health and safety legislation, including asbestos management.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and manage site teams efficiently.
Working Conditions
  • This role is based on site in Halesowen, West Midlands, and requires full-time hours over an 8-week period.
  • Work is primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • The post requires adherence to strict health and safety protocols at all times.
  • Some flexibility in working hours may be necessary to meet project deadlines.
