Site/Senior Engineer - Energy Civils

Carrington West

Site/Senior Engineer - Power & Civil Infrastructure
£50,000-£55,000 (DOE) + weekend enhancements
UK-wide projects | Regular working away from home

Looking for a role where you can take ownership of major civil engineering works rather than simply carrying out setting out duties?

This Site/Senior Engineer opportunity will put you at the centre of technically interesting infrastructure projects across the UK, covering everything from pylon foundations and substations through to grid connections, access roads, bridge works and piling platforms.

You will receive a strong basic salary, enhanced weekend overtime, a company 4x4 with fuel card and a living-away allowance, making this particularly attractive if you are comfortable working nationally and want exposure to a varied pipeline of energy and infrastructure schemes.

The opportunity

My client is a growing civil engineering contractor delivering specialist works across the UK, with a strong workload within the power sector.

With further projects coming through, they are looking to appoint a Site Engineer who can take responsibility for civil engineering activities on site and become a trusted technical point of contact for both the delivery team and the client.

This is not a desk based engineering position. You will be working directly on live sites, coordinating people and resources, solving problems and making sure works are delivered safely, accurately and efficiently.

What you will be doing

As the Site Engineer, you will be involved across a broad range of civil power infrastructure works. You will be doing work such as:

  • Setting out and checking levels using total stations and GPS equipment.
  • Supporting the delivery of pylon foundation works and associated reinforced concrete civils.
  • Working on grid connection activities, including ducting and cable installation works.
  • Supporting the construction and civil elements of substation projects.
  • Delivering access infrastructure including road installations, bridge works and culverts.
  • Setting out and overseeing crane pads, piling platforms and associated temporary works areas.
  • Managing day-to-day site activities and coordinating subcontractors in line with project requirements.
  • Monitoring labour, plant and materials to help ensure projects are delivered efficiently.
  • Keeping accurate site records and monitoring project KPIs.
  • Producing and submitting reports within agreed project time scales.
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with clients and providing clear technical input on site.
  • Leading site teams through effective daily communication and clear direction.
  • Ensuring RAMS, toolbox talks, inductions and other site safety documentation are completed and communicated correctly.
  • Supporting site audits, near miss reporting and wider health and safety initiatives.
  • Helping develop foremen, junior engineers and trainee engineers through practical on site guidance.

What will help you succeed

My client is looking for someone with practical civil engineering experience who is confident taking responsibility on site.

You should ideally bring experience of setting out using GPS and total station equipment, alongside a good understanding of civil engineering construction.

Experience within power, utilities, substations, grid infrastructure, highways, heavy civils or a related environment would be particularly useful.

You will also need to be comfortable communicating directly with clients, contractors and site teams, while maintaining accurate records and a strong approach to health and safety.

Because projects are delivered throughout the UK, working away from home is an essential part of the position.

Package

The salary for this position is £50,000-£55,000 per annum, dependent on experience.

In addition, you will receive:

  • Time and a half for Saturday working
  • Double time for Sunday working
  • Company 4x4 vehicle with fuel card
  • Company laptop and mobile phone
  • £30 tax-free living-away allowance daily
  • Health cover after one year's service

Where this could take you

For a Site Engineer looking to build deeper experience within the power and energy infrastructure sector, this position offers exposure to a wide range of civil engineering packages rather than one repetitive type of project.

You will be trusted with genuine site responsibility and will have the opportunity to strengthen your experience in project delivery, client liaison, site management, commercial awareness and the development of junior members of the engineering team.

The role is UK-wide, so you must be prepared to stay away from home when projects require it.

Interested?

If you have a background in civil engineering, enjoy being responsible for delivery on site and want a role offering variety, enhanced overtime and nationwide project exposure, this is an excellent opportunity to consider.
