Long Term Futures is recruiting a Speech & Language Teaching Assistant to support a Reception pupil with Autism (ASD) and non-verbal communication needs at an inclusive primary school in Camden.
This is a focused SEN role where communication development will be at the heart of your work. You'll provide consistent support throughout the school day while delivering targeted speech, language and communication interventions designed to help the pupil express their needs, engage with others and become increasingly independent.
About the Role

  • Provide dedicated support for a Reception pupil with non-verbal ASD
  • Deliver targeted speech and language interventions
  • Use visual communication, PECS, Makaton and modelling where appropriate
  • Encourage communication, interaction and joint attention through play
  • Support the pupil to access EYFS learning at an appropriate level
  • Help with transitions, routines and emotional regulation
  • Promote independence rather than reliance on adult support
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo and Speech & Language Therapist (SALT)
  • Record progress towards communication and EHCP targets

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience supporting children with ASD, SLCN or speech and language needs
  • Experience with non-verbal or minimally verbal children is particularly desirable
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or alternative communication strategies
  • Understanding of the EYFS and early child development
  • Patient, engaging and confident delivering interventions
  • Psychology, Speech & Language or Early Years graduates with strong relevant experience are also encouraged to apply
