Are you from a sports, coaching or fitness background and interested in using your skills to support young people in the classroom? A welcoming school in Sheffield is looking for a dedicated Sports Coach / Learning Support professional to join their team.
About the Role:
This is a school-based classroom support role rather than a sports delivery position. You will work alongside teachers to support pupils with their learning, behaviour and engagement across the school day. Your experience in sport can provide valuable transferable skills, including confidence, resilience, structure, communication and positive behaviour management. Your main duty will be supporting pupils in the classroom, with opportunities to assist with SEN and wider learning needs.

Responsibilities:

Provide classroom-based support to pupils across Primary or Secondary settings.

Support pupils with learning, behaviour and engagement throughout the school day.

Work alongside teachers to maintain a calm and structured classroom environment.

Provide individual or small-group support where appropriate, including SEN support.

Help pupils remain focused and engaged with their learning.

Support cover supervision and classroom activities when required.

Use transferable skills from sport or coaching to encourage resilience, positive behaviour and participation.

Communicate relevant observations and feedback to teaching staff.
Requirements:
-
Experience in sport, coaching, fitness or a similar setting is desirable.

Previous experience working with children or young people is advantageous.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

A calm, patient and resilient approach to supporting pupils.

Confidence managing behaviour and maintaining clear boundaries.

Ability to work effectively alongside teachers and other school staff.

A genuine interest in supporting young people with their education and development.
To work with GSL Education as a Sports Coach / Learning Support, you should:

Have the right to work in the UK.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.

Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
We also offer, via our partner, access to accredited Education-relevant CPD courses.
In addition to that, GSL Education are currently offering £100 for the successful referral of either Teachers or Teaching Assistants (Ts &Cs apply).
