Role Overview

Support a young person in his early 20s who has learning disabilities and may present challenging behaviour. The Support Worker will promote independence, safety, and positive outcomes through daily person-centred support within a caring home environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day support to the individual, including personal care, daily living tasks, and community access.

  • Support positive behaviour strategies and respond to challenging behaviour in line with agreed plans and risk assessments.

  • Encourage independence and skill development appropriate to the individual’s needs.

  • Support routines at home and during activities, maintaining a calm, respectful approach.

  • Use Makaton to communicate effectively (training/experience required).

  • Work on a rota basis, including evenings/weekends as required, supporting full-time hours.

  • Work comfortably in a home environment with pets (dogs and a cat).

  • Support safe participation in leisure activities, including swimming (must be able to swim).

Requirements

  • At least 12 months of relevant UK care experience.

  • Confident and experienced in supporting adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour.

  • Able to communicate using Makaton (knowledge of signing/communication supported by Makaton).

  • Able to swim and comfortable supporting swimming-related activities.

  • Comfortable working around pets (dogs and a cat).

  • A valid UK driving licence is preferable.

  • Flexible, reliable, and able to work full time on a rota without requiring sponsorship.
