At MASS, we solve complex defence and security challenges through systems engineering, software, electronic warfare and operational analysis, helping to deliver mission-critical capability to UK Defence and its partners.

Join our growing team at Porton Down, Salisbury (SP4), working directly alongside our technical customer, Dstl, one of the UK's leading science and technology organisations. This role sits at the heart of a major national defence transformation programme, where you'll help shape the next generation of UK defence capability.

Working embedded with the customer, you'll operate with a high degree of autonomy and influence, collaborating directly with scientists, engineers and military end users to translate real-world operational challenges into robust engineering solutions. You'll apply both traditional Systems Engineering principles and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) techniques across the full engineering lifecycle, from requirements capture and system design through to integration, verification and validation.

Unlike many engineering roles, this position offers the opportunity to work closely with the customer throughout the entire lifecycle, influencing capability from concept through to operational deployment. You'll see your work tested in the real world, supporting in-field trials across the UK and internationally while helping deliver current and next-generation technologies that make a genuine operational impact.

The invaluable experience you’ll bring

Joining the programme as it moves into implementation, you’ll work closely with users to elicit and evolve requirements, capturing these through clear, structured documents and models. You’ll provide ongoing support through delivery, applying Systems Engineering best practice to ensure solutions remain aligned to operational needs and can adapt to evolving requirements.

Whether your experience has been gained within defence, government, consultancy or the Armed Forces, if you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges and seeing your work make a real operational impact, we'd love to hear from you.

Essential:

  • Experience delivering Systems Engineering across the engineering lifecycle
  • Experience with requirements management using DOORS, Enterprise Architect or similar
  • Experience producing Systems Engineering documentation
  • Experience in verification, validation and acceptance testing
  • Experience engaging technical and operational stakeholders
  • Experience with a high-level understanding of Electronic Warfare (EW) principles or exposure to EW-related systems

Highly desirable:

  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), including SysML/UML
  • Coding experience (JavaScript or MATLAB/Simulink)
  • Defence industry experience, particularly within Electronic Warfare (EW)
  • Service leavers are encouraged to apply. Experience gained working with Electronic Warfare (EW) systems in the Armed Forces—whether in operational, maintenance, support or acquisition roles—would be highly beneficial.

Wellbeing is at the heart of our culture. We want our people to thrive, both professionally and personally, and offer a range of wellbeing initiatives including Mental Health First Aiders, an Employee Assistance Programme and a variety of support services to help you be at your best.

Eligibility Requirements:

Due to the highly secure nature of the projects you’ll be working on, you must be:

  • A UK National and eligible to work in the UK
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a UK Government SC-level security clearance
