Systems Support Engineer

Systems Support Engineer
East Midlands | £30,000 to £35,000 plus uncapped bonus of 5% to 15%
Growing privately owned organisation, established technical team
The support role that is designed to become more than support
Most support roles promise development and then hand you a ticket queue. This one has a route into configuration and automation written into the specification, because the business that created it has already built a technical team it is proud of and wants the next person to grow inside it.
Our client is a profitable, privately owned organisation based in the East Midlands. The technology function has grown considerably with the business and now includes machine learning specialists, experienced software developers and solution architects. This role exists to keep the business running well day to day so that team can build.
What you will actually be doing
You will be the person people come to. That means front line support across Microsoft cloud applications, covering administration, mail services, identity and remote access, and it means day to day troubleshooting and user support on the company customer relationship management platform. It also means real configuration work, building and maintaining workflows, dashboards and automations rather than simply raising tickets for somebody else to action.
Alongside that you will handle onboarding and offboarding, user accounts and permissions, general administration of the software as a service tools the business relies on, and hardware issues as they arise. When something needs escalating you will work with the wider technical team to resolve it and to put the improvement in place so it does not recur.
The work is varied by design. If you like knowing what your week looks like on Monday morning, this is not the role. If you like the fact that it will be different, it is.
This is who you are
You have around two years or more supporting Microsoft cloud applications in a business environment, and you have administered a customer relationship management system rather than only used one. You have built a workflow or an automation yourself and you understood why the business needed it. You are as comfortable talking to a frustrated director as you are reading a log file.
You are organised, you can hold four things in your head at once and still know which one matters most, and you stay calm when everything arrives at the same time. You are the sort of person who notices a fault that keeps recurring and does something about it before anyone asks.
Most of all, you want to grow. You have probably already taught yourself something that was not strictly required of you. This role offers exposure to low code scripting and automation, and a genuine route toward light development work, and the client is looking for somebody who wants that rather than somebody who will tolerate it.
What is on offer
A base salary of £30,000 to £35,000 depending on experience, with an uncapped annual bonus typically paying between 5% and 15% of base salary, which is unusual at this level and reflects a business that shares its success. A permanent role in the East Midlands, commutable from Northampton, Milton Keynes, Wellingborough, Kettering, Corby, Rugby, Daventry, Bedford, Towcester and Market Harborough. A technical team that is respected inside the business rather than treated as a cost. And a defined path toward the work you actually want to be doing in three years.
