Teaching Assistant - Southampton

Prospero Teaching is recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to support pupils in schools across the Southampton area. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about education and enjoys helping young people develop confidence, achieve their potential, and engage positively with learning.

Working closely with teachers and support staff, you will provide classroom support and assist pupils who may benefit from additional guidance during lessons. Support may be delivered on a 1:1 basis or through small‑group activities, depending on the needs of the school.

This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain valuable experience within education while making a real difference to pupils' progress and development.

The Role:

  • Support teaching and learning within the classroom
  • Provide 1:1 support and assist with small‑group interventions
  • Help pupils stay engaged, focused, and motivated during lessons
  • Assist with classroom activities, resources, and lesson preparation
  • Encourage positive behaviour and learning routines
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Support pupils' confidence, participation, and progress
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Patient, supportive, and approachable manner
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Adaptable and responsive to varying needs
  • Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Backgrounds in childcare, coaching, youth work, or education welcomed
  • Graduates seeking school‑based experience encouraged to apply

Contract Details:

  • Position: Teaching Assistant
  • Location: Southampton
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Working Pattern: Full‑time, term‑time
  • Pay Rate: £14.25 - £15.66 per hour
  • Key Stages: Primary / Secondary

Experience, Training & Safeguarding:

  • Experience working with children desirable
  • SEN experience beneficial but not essential
  • Safeguarding training can be provided
