Teaching Assistant SEMH

Make a lasting difference to the lives of children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs by providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support within schools in the Leeds Area. You'll help pupils overcome barriers to learning, build positive relationships, develop emotional resilience, and achieve their full potential in a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.
 
Who are we looking for?

A successful candidate would:

• Have previous experience working in educational environments, including mainstream schools, specialist settings, or alternative education provisions.
• Have a proven ability to support children and young people with a diverse range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with behavioural challenges, complex communication, and additional learning needs.
• Be compassionate, approachable, and patient, with the ability to establish positive, trusting relationships that help pupils thrive.
• Show resilience, adaptability, and initiative when responding to individual pupil needs, while actively contributing to their learning, progress, and overall development.

Working in this setting requires patience, empathy, and adaptability, as pupils have a range of additional needs requiring personalised support throughout the school day.

You will:
 

• Provide consistent encouragement and positive reinforcement to promote confidence, independence, and engagement in learning.
• Support pupils with their academic, social, emotional, and communication development.
• Use positive behaviour management strategies to encourage appropriate behaviours and create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
• Work closely with teachers and other professionals to implement individual support plans and meet pupils' specific needs.

What we need from you:
 

• Two professional references.
• A valid right-to-work in the UK (We can not sponsor Visas for this role)
• A valid Enhanced DBS Certificate or willingness to obtain one with us.
• Team Teach Positive, MAPA or equivalent Behaviour Management training is desirable but not essential.

Rate of pay is dependent on current grade, experience, and payroll method.
