1:1 Teaching Assistant - Reception (SEMH Support)
Full-Time | Wythenshawe | Mainstream Primary School

A welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Wythenshawe is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil in Reception with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a full-time role to start as soon as possible and is being advertised on behalf of the school by our education recruitment agency.

This is an excellent opportunity for a nurturing and resilient individual who is passionate about supporting children in the early years and helping them to thrive both academically and emotionally within a mainstream setting.



The Role

  • Providing consistent 1:1 support for a Reception-aged pupil with SEMH needs
  • Supporting emotional regulation, communication and engagement within the classroom
  • Building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school staff
  • Implementing strategies to support behaviour and learning
  • Encouraging participation in classroom activities and social interaction
  • Supporting transitions and maintaining a calm, structured environment


The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH, behavioural needs or additional learning needs
  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
  • Experience within EYFS or primary settings is desirable
  • The ability to remain resilient and adaptable throughout the school day
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils

Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
  • Relevant references covering the last two years
  • Right to work in the UK
