Technical Service Engineer (Site Based)

Marshall Harmony

Are you a Service Engineer who loves solving technical problems but is fed up with constantly being on the road?

You've built your career around solving technical problems. When a machine stops working, when a fault isn't obvious, when a customer needs an answer, you're the person people turn to.

It's never been the engineering that's the issue...you still enjoy that part.
What you're looking for is a way to keep using those skills without spending your life on the motorway.

As an Technical Service Engineer, that's exactly what you'll do.

You'll be fault-finding, diagnosing electrical issues and working through wiring diagrams to get to the root cause of a problem. Supporting engineers and helping customers overcome technical challenges.

This will mean speaking with customers too, whether they are visiting site, emailing in with a query or needing support over the phone, so you'll need to be comfortable holding those conversations as well as solving the technical issue.

The difference is you'll be doing it from one location, working alongside a Technical Services team where your knowledge will make an impact every day.

You won't spend your week travelling from customer to customer.
You won't be packing a suitcase on a Sunday night wondering where you'll be on Monday morning.

Instead, you'll arrive at the same place every day, work alongside the Technical Services team and be the engineer they rely on when they need answers.

As an Technical Service Engineer, you'll be the person the Service Engineers call when a fault isn't straightforward, helping diagnose problems, working through solutions and getting equipment back up and running.
You'll carry out testing, calibration and repairs in-house. Some days you'll be helping a Service Engineer work through a difficult fault. Other days you'll be investigating recurring issues, supporting technical queries or working alongside the wider engineering team to stop problems happening in the first place. You'll play a key role in helping customers get answers quickly before they become bigger problems.

The Technical Services team has grown over recent years and, as more equipment has gone out into the field, the need for dedicated technical support has grown with it.

That's why this Technical Service Engineer role has been created.
It's about giving the Service Engineers another level of support when they're out on-site, whilst ensuring customers get answers and solutions as quickly as possible.

As an Technical Service Engineer, you'll become a central part of that support, helping improve response times, supporting engineers in the field and ensuring customers get the answers they need quickly and effectively.
As an Technical Service Engineer, electrical fault-finding will be your strength.
You'll be someone who:
  • Is confident reading schematics and electrical drawings
  • Sees wiring diagrams as a puzzle to solve rather than a headache
  • Enjoys taking something apart, finding the fault and putting it back together
  • Works methodically through a problem until you've found the answer
  • Gets satisfaction from helping others solve technical challenges
Mechanical skills would be useful, but it's your ability to get to the root cause of an electrical fault that will really set you apart.

Reporting into the Technical Services Manager, you'll support advanced thermal spray and coating systems, carrying out testing and calibration, investigating faults and helping Service Engineers overcome technical challenges quickly and effectively.

You might currently be a Service Engineer who's had enough of living out of a suitcase...or a Maintenance Engineer who enjoys fault-finding and diagnostics but wants to apply those skills in a different environment.

And whilst this is based on site, if you did want the occasional opportunity to go to a customer, it's not completely ruled out. The difference is that travel isn't expected.

What's in it for you?

Salary of £35,000 - £45,000 depending on experience, you'll be based in Brierley Hill, working Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 5pm.

You'll receive 25.5 days holiday plus bank holidays, a company pension scheme, death in service cover and ongoing technical training and development.

If you still love the engineering but ready to leave the travel behind, this Technical Service Engineer role could be exactly what you're looking for.
