Job Title: Tooling Design Engineer

Rate:  £35.80ph via an Umbrella Company (Inside IR35) or £26.68ph on a PAYE basis

Employment Type: Contract (Currently financed until March 2027)

Hours: Standard 40 Hours Per Week                         

I'm currently recruiting for an exciting Tooling Design Engineer opportunity to join a worldwide renowned automotive OEM based in Gaydon, Warwickshire.

This is a long-term contract role, currently funded intially through to March 2027, offering a competitive rate of £35.80 per hour Umbrella (Inside IR35) or £26.68 per hour PAYE, based on a 40-hour week.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Tooling Design Engineer with a strong background in tooling and manufacturing processes to support the design, development, validation and delivery of production tooling solutions.

You'll be responsible for translating engineering requirements into robust tooling designs, ensuring manufacturability, supporting design verification activities and collaborating with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.

💷 Rate: £35.80ph Umbrella / £26.68ph PAYE

Key Responsibilities

  • Tooling design and development using CAD systems
  • Design for Manufacture (DFM) activities
  • Creation and management of engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Design of jigs and fixtures for assembly operations
  • Tooling verification, testing and sign-off activities
  • Supporting issue investigation and resolution with suppliers
  • Mould flow analysis and tooling optimisation
  • Ensuring compliance with JLR engineering standards
  • Supporting manufacturing process improvements

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience in Tooling Design Engineering
  • Strong CAD capabilities (CATIA preferred, equivalent packages considered)
  • Detailed understanding of GD&T
  • Design for Manufacture experience
  • Knowledge of:
    • Die casting
    • Injection moulding
    • Machining
    • Pressing and stamping processes
    • Painting and associated manufacturing techniques
  • Understanding of fixing methods, bolted joint calculations and adhesive force calculations
  • Experience with FMEA and quality problem-solving tools such as 8D, FMEDA or Fault Tree Analysis
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of work packages
