Location: Whitstable
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday to Thursday, 8:00am – 4:30pm and Friday, 8:00am – 1:30pm
Work Location: On-site
About the Role
Our Client is seeking an experienced Toolroom Engineer to join their Toolroom team in Whitstable. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineering professional to play a key role in the production, maintenance, repair, and improvement of tooling used across manufacturing operations.
Working within a highly technical environment, you will support the development of new tooling solutions, manufacture precision components, and contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency and product quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture new tooling and refurbish existing tooling to support production requirements.
- Develop innovative tooling solutions for both moulding and assembly operations.
- Machine tooling and prototype components to exacting tolerances.
- Produce small-batch and development components for testing and new product introduction activities.
- Work closely with Design, Manufacturing, and Process Engineers to support tooling design and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain high standards of quality, accuracy, and health and safety compliance.
- Support the wider engineering team with tooling and process-related projects.
About You
Essential Requirements
- Completed a recognised Toolroom Apprenticeship.
- City & Guilds qualification (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Toolroom Engineer, Toolmaker, or Toolroom Technician.
- Strong knowledge of mould tool manufacture and assembly tooling.
- Ability to work from technical drawings, CAD models, verbal instructions, or damaged components.
- Experience machining to precise tolerances using milling, turning, grinding, and related techniques.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage workloads and deadlines.
Desirable Skills
- CAD/CAM experience.
- CNC milling and turning experience.
- EDM, wire erosion, hole erosion, or spark erosion experience.
- Experience in prototyping, model shop work, or small-batch production.
- Project leadership experience.
