Trainee Estimator / Estimator – Bedford

A leading flooring subcontractor in Bedford has an opportunity for a Trainee Estimator or Estimator to join their commercial team. They are financially strong, expanding, and known for exceptional quality and service. This is a great role for someone who wants to learn, progress and grow in a fast-paced commercial environment.

You will be joining a team of six, consisting of two Business Development Managers and four Estimators. Hybrid working is available after a training period.

They operate across Airports, Healthcare, Defence, Leisure, Commercial, Hotels, Education and Residential, delivering first-class installations on time, every time.

They work with Tier 1 and Tier 2 Contractors and have a strong presence across London and the Home Counties. The commercial team enjoys a great working environment with plenty of experience, support, banter and regular social activities. Everyone gets along well, and there is always lots happening socially.

Projects typically range between £5,000 and £2,000,000.

The Role – Trainee Estimator / Estimator

This is a full-time, office-based role with regular site visits. You will assist with and develop skills in:

  • Reviewing drawings and specifications

  • Quantity take-offs

  • Preparing estimates and costings

  • Pricing bills of quantities and producing lump-sum tenders

  • Supplier and subcontractor enquiries

  • Comparing quotations and supporting procurement

  • Assisting with tender submissions

  • Supporting contract administration and commercial reporting

  • Carrying out site surveys 1–2 times per week

  • Working on projects requiring security clearance

You will typically manage 7–8 live tenders at any one time, valued between £50,000 and £1.5m.

The Right Person – Trainee Estimator / Estimator

  • 5 GCSEs including a C in Maths

  • Must be able to drive

  • Good attention to detail

  • Able to juggle multiple tenders and deadlines in a high-pressure environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel

  • Strong organisational and communication skills

  • Able to work independently and within a team

  • Experience in negotiation is beneficial

  • Comfortable working on security-cleared projects (training provided)

Working Hours

8.30am – 5.00pm Hybrid working available after a training period.
