We are seeking an experienced and proactive Transport Compliance Manager to oversee regulatory adherence, operational performance, and team leadership within a busy commercial transport environment.

This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring the transport function operates legally, safely, and efficiently while driving a strong compliance culture across the business.

Key Responsibilities: Regulatory Compliance & Operator Standards:

Operator Licence Oversight:
Act as the designated CPC holder, ensuring full compliance with all Traffic Commissioner and DVSA requirements and protecting the integrity of the Operator’s Licence at all times.

Accreditation & Audit Management:
Maintain and enhance industry accreditation standards (including FORS or equivalent), leading internal and external audits to retain recognised compliance status.

Drivers’ Hours & Working Time Compliance:
Oversee detailed tachograph analysis to ensure strict adherence to UK/EU drivers’ hours regulations and the Road Transport Working Time Directive. Work towards best-practice compliance frameworks such as Earned Recognition.

Safe Systems & Risk Management:
Develop, implement, and review comprehensive risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work across all transport, yard, and loading operations.

Health & Safety Leadership:
Champion a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety legislation and internal standards.

Team Leadership & Culture

Culture & Engagement:
Promote an open, accountable, safety-focused culture that strengthens communication and collaboration between operational staff and drivers.

Performance Management:
Conduct regular reviews, manage attendance and performance issues, and handle disciplinary or grievance matters in line with company policy.

Training & Development:
Identify development needs, coordinate periodic CPC training, and deliver targeted toolbox talks based on compliance trends and infringement data.

Driver Wellbeing & Fatigue Management:
Design and oversee work schedules that prioritise driver wellbeing, manage fatigue risks, and ensure operational sustainability.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

Operational KPIs:
Track and report on key transport metrics including fuel performance, on-time delivery, vehicle utilisation, and downtime.

Senior Leadership Reporting:
Prepare and present compliance, financial, and operational reports to senior management.

Infringement Control:
Monitor driver performance data, identify recurring compliance issues, and implement corrective training or action plans where necessary.

Policy & Governance

Transport Policies & Procedures:
Develop, review, and enforce robust transport policies covering defect reporting, accident procedures, drug and alcohol compliance, and operational best practice.

Audit & Record Management:
Maintain accurate, audit-ready records across vehicle maintenance, driver hours, training logs, and compliance documentation.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Valid Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) – Essential
  • IOSH qualification – Desirable
  • Strong knowledge of drivers’ hours, tachograph legislation, and Working Time Regulations
  • Solid understanding of UK Road Transport regulations
  • Experience within general haulage and/or palletised distribution networks
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a transport management role
