Transport Operations Supervisor in Port Clarence, Middlesbrough

Transport Operations Supervisor   Location: Port Clarence   Salary: £36,393 per annum   Hours: 40 hours per week \| Between 6:00am and 10:00pm   25 days’ annual leave + public bank holidays  
 
Pin Point Recruitment are currently recruiting for an experienced Transport Operations Supervisor to join a well-established industrial organisation at their Port Clarence site.
 
 
This is a hands-on supervisory position, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring deliveries are completed safely and efficiently, drivers and vehicles are managed effectively, and all legal and company requirements are met.
 
 
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Transport Operations Manager and will be the only Transport Supervisor based at Port Clarence, giving them a strong level of responsibility and involvement in the daily operation.
 
  Key Responsibilities  
·         Act as the main point of contact for day-to-day transport operational issues.
·         Supervise and monitor company drivers and fleet performance.
·         Monitor subcontractor transport performance and address any issues.
·         Ensure delivery plans are completed accurately and efficiently.
·         Review routes and suppliers to ensure transport is planned cost-effectively.
·         Monitor vehicle availability and work closely with the maintenance team.
·         Ensure drivers comply with relevant transport legislation, including Working Time Directive and tachograph requirements.
·         Monitor and manage driver holidays, sickness, rest days and vehicle availability.
·         Support the night loading operation and monitor performance.
·         Ensure fuel management systems are correctly used.
·         Deal with customer enquiries and provide updates on deliveries.
·         Assist with transport documentation, PODs and job files.
·         Authorise company driver pay and maintain accurate transport records.
·         Produce weekly KPIs and operational reports.
·         Carry out incident investigations and escalate disciplinary matters where appropriate.
·         Maintain accurate system data and ensure paperwork is completed and filed correctly.
·         Work closely with warehouse teams to coordinate outgoing loads and returns.
·         Ensure all transport activities comply with company health & safety, ISO and employment policies.
·         Positively represent the company when dealing with customers, drivers and suppliers.
·         Support the wider transport operation and undertake other reasonable duties as required.
 
 
  About You  
We are looking for an experienced Transport Supervisor / Transport Operations Supervisor who is confident managing drivers, vehicles and day-to-day transport operations within a busy environment.
 
  Essential requirements:  
·         Previous experience in a transport operations or transport supervisory role.
·         ADR experience is essential.
·         Good understanding of transport legislation, including WTD and tachograph regulations.
·         Experience managing drivers and monitoring fleet performance.
·         Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
·         Good communication skills and confidence dealing with customers, drivers and internal teams.
·         A good understanding of transport planning and route optimisation.
·         Experience working within a regulated environment would be advantageous.
·         Experience within a chemical, industrial, manufacturing or similar environment would be beneficial.
 
  Working Hours  
The role is contracted to 40 hours per week, with working hours falling between 6:00am and 10:00pm.
 
 
As the only Transport Supervisor currently based at Port Clarence, working hours may vary depending on business requirements. Initially, the role is likely to follow more traditional office hours, but flexibility will be required as the operation develops.
