Transport Planner

Location: Edmonton
Hourly rate: £15.38
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
Contract: Temporary 3 months

 

We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client, a well-established business within the plant hire industry, who are looking for an experienced and organised Transport Planner to join their team.

This is a key role within the transport operation, working closely with the Transport Manager to coordinate daily deliveries and collections, allocating work to drivers and ensuring customers receive an efficient and reliable service.

The Role

As Transport Planner, your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating daily deliveries and collections, ensuring work is planned and allocated efficiently.

  • Arranging delivery and collection booking slots with customers.

  • Keeping customers updated on expected arrival and collection times.

  • Liaising with customers to ensure their transport requirements are met.

  • Allocating work to drivers via the PDA and driving scheduler.

  • Checking driver loads before vehicles leave the depot and upon their return.

  • Coordinating the collection and return of equipment from suppliers and other depots.

  • Liaising with third-party transport providers.

  • Contacting customers the day before deliveries and collections to confirm requirements.

  • Providing regular transport reports to the Transport Manager.

  • Ensuring deliveries leave the depot on time and collections are completed within the required timescales.

  • Supporting the wider transport operation and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.

 

About You

We are looking for someone with previous experience in a Transport Planner, Transport Coordinator or similar role.

We are looking for Candidates that are highly organised and comfortable working in a fast-paced operation where priorities can change throughout the day. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be dealing regularly with drivers, customers, suppliers and third-party transport providers.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous transport planning or coordination experience.

  • Good knowledge of UK geography and route planning.

  • Experience working with vehicles from 3.5T up to HGV Class 1

  • Understanding of driving legislation and vehicle loading requirements.

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • The ability to work independently and use initiative.

  • A proactive and adaptable approach.
