US/UK Tax Director - London (Hybrid/Remote)
Job Type: Permanent
Location: London (Hybrid/Remote)
Salary: £Negotiable + Bonus + Benefits
Complex cross-border advice, trusted client relationships and a meaningful role in practice development: this US/UK Tax Director position brings together technical leadership and commercial responsibility within a Private Client Tax Practice.
The role offers scope to manage a complex portfolio, lead bespoke advisory work and help develop the practice through relationships with clients and professional intermediaries. Alongside client delivery, you'll coach colleagues, oversee performance and take ownership of the commercial aspects of your engagements.
This is a role for someone who enjoys both the technical substance of private client tax and the judgement involved in leading engagements, developing people and recognising where clients need additional support.
The Role:
You'll advise private clients on their US and UK tax affairs, translating complex cross-border issues into clear, practical advice. From initial engagement and onboarding through to ongoing compliance and specialist advisory projects, you'll build relationships that support consistent, high-quality service.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a complex client portfolio and leading tailored US and UK tax advice.
- Overseeing advisory projects and the tax compliance process, including reviewing and signing US tax returns, maintaining quality standards and managing risk.
- Leading client engagement and onboarding, agreeing scope and ensuring internal and external deadlines are met.
- Contributing to business development and practice growth, including building relationships with professional intermediaries, trustees and wealth managers.
- Working with specialists across the firm on estate and gift tax, inheritance tax and corporate tax matters.
- Managing, coaching and developing colleagues, with responsibility for delegation, review, constructive feedback and performance management.
- Leading scoping, quotations and final billing decisions, while supporting prompt payment and effective financial management.
The Person:
You'll have experience managing complex client portfolios and delivering high-quality tax advice, supported by strong knowledge of US tax compliance and experience reviewing and signing US tax returns.
You'll also bring:
- Experience leading and developing colleagues while balancing team priorities and delivery commitments.
- Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to make complex matters understandable.
- Commercial judgement and strong relationship-building skills, including identifying client needs and shaping tailored solutions.
An Enrolled Agent (EA) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification is essential. An Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and/or Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification is also highly desirable.
