Our client, a leading provider of facilities services in the UK, is seeking a Water Hygiene & Plumbing Engineer to join its engineering team, supporting the management and compliance of three historic government buildings in Westminster.

Job Overview

This is a specialist role with a primary focus on water hygiene compliance and the effective management of building water systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering scheduled water hygiene activities, ensuring compliance with current legislation, guidance and best practice across a prestigious government estate.

The role also includes plumbing duties focused on remedial works identified through planned maintenance activities, inspections and compliance reports. Accurate record keeping and maintaining the integrity of critical water systems are essential aspects of this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver all planned water hygiene tasks across three government buildings.
  • Maintain water hygiene logbooks and compliance documentation, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
  • Carry out cold water storage tank inspections and associated maintenance activities.
  • Complete temperature monitoring, outlet flushing, shower head cleaning and descaling.
  • Support water treatment programmes and assist with water sampling activities where required.
  • Undertake planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on domestic water systems.
  • Carry out plumbing remedial works identified through inspections and compliance reports.
  • Maintain hot and cold water services, valves, TMVs, pumps, pipework and associated equipment.
  • Support statutory compliance in accordance with ACOP L8 and HSG274 guidance.
  • Respond to reactive plumbing issues as required.

Person Specification

  • NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Level 3 in Plumbing (or equivalent).
  • L8 Legionella qualification with practical water hygiene experience.
  • Experience carrying out water hygiene activities within commercial or public sector environments.
  • Strong understanding of ACOP L8 and HSG274 guidance.
  • Experience inspecting water systems, storage tanks and supporting water treatment programmes.
  • Proven plumbing experience, particularly in remedial works and repairs.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate compliance records and documentation.
  • Ability to obtain Security Clearance (SC). Successful candidates may commence employment following BPSS clearance, with SC processed thereafter.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to use a pool vehicle whilst on-call.
