Works Coordinator
Altera Recruitment Group Ltd
Works Coordinator
Altera Recruitment Group is supporting an established utilities and highways business in North West London in the appointment of a Street Works Coordinator to join its Street Works team.
The business carries out excavation, reinstatement and highways maintenance for the electricity, gas, water, telecoms and local authority sectors across London, the Home Counties and the South East. It employs over 600 people and is accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. The Street Works team of 8 manages every permit, work stop and registration the business produces.
You do not need a street works background. Full training is given on Streetworks legislation, Street Manager and the in house works management system. The team has seen people with no street works experience outperform experienced candidates, so this would equally suit an accurate administrator, data entry or customer service candidate who is sharp early in the morning and enjoys doing the same careful checks well, all day.
Key Responsibilities of the Street Works Coordinator
- Process work stops and registrations through Street Manager and the in house works management system, within the timeframes set by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and the Traffic Management Act 2004.
- Check every completed job for signing, lighting and guarding, and that the reinstatement is complete including road markings, anti skid surfacing and kerbs.
- Review reinstatement methodology, identify interim reinstatements and escalate any dangerous reinstatement immediately.
- Run jeopardy and compliance reports, update job status and issue them to the distribution list.
- Audit completed works against the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in the Highway and share lessons learnt with the operations teams.
- Liaise with local authorities on permits, extensions, variations and amendments, and chase planners on jobs at risk of overrun.
- Act as the cross contract support point for Streetworks queries from the rest of the business.
Candidate Requirements
- Exceptional attention to detail across a high volume of repetitive checks.
- Confident with Microsoft Excel and accurate at data entry.
- Comfortable with a 07:00 start every working day, and reliable.
- Able to work at pace to a 10:00 deadline as part of a team.
- Good communication skills, including with local authorities and site teams.
- A full UK driving licence and own transport, as the site is not on a convenient public transport route.
- NRSWA, noticing, permitting or Street Manager experience would be advantageous, but is not required.
What's on Offer
- Salary of £30,000 to £35,000 per annum, depending on experience.
- Full time and permanent, Monday to Friday, with a 07:00 start and some flexibility on finish time.
- Hybrid working once probation is passed, 3 days on site and 2 days from home.
- 6 hours a month worked at a weekend, paid at overtime rate.
- Full training in Streetworks legislation, Street Manager and permitting, with no previous experience required.
- Exposure across every contract in the business rather than a single one.
- A business of over 600 people, accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
