Salary: £42,500–£44,500 per annum

Working Hours
- Monday to Friday: 06:00 – 14:30
- On-call rotation: Every 5th week, or as required to support operational needs.
Workshop Controller (Hands-On Workshop Supervisor) - The Role
We are looking for an experienced Workshop Controller to lead our busy vehicle maintenance workshop at Edinburgh Airport.
This is a hands-on Workshop Supervisor position, ideal for someone who enjoys leading by example while remaining technically involved in the day-to-day operation. You'll coordinate workshop activity, allocate work, support technicians on the tools when required, and ensure vehicles are maintained safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
Working closely with the Operations Manager, you'll take responsibility for workshop productivity, quality, compliance and team performance, ensuring an efficient operation that supports the demands of a fast-paced airport environment.
Workshop Controller Key Responsibilities
- Control and coordinate the daily workflow of the workshop, ensuring work is allocated effectively to maximise productivity.
- Lead, motivate and support workshop, mobile and airside maintenance technicians.
- Remain hands-on within the workshop, providing technical support and assisting with repairs and maintenance where required.
- Ensure all servicing, maintenance and repairs are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
- Monitor workshop performance, productivity and vehicle downtime to achieve operational targets.
- Promote a positive health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with company procedures and airport regulations.
- Carry out quality inspections and provide coaching and technical guidance to technicians.
- Maintain accurate workshop records, maintenance documentation and system updates.
- Manage workshop tooling, equipment registers and asset records.
- Raise and authorise parts purchase orders in accordance with company procedures.
- Support employee performance, attendance management and ongoing development.
- Ensure compliance with company quality management systems and ISO standards.
- Deputise for the Operations Manager when required.
Workshop Controller (Hands-On Workshop Supervisor) -About You
To be successful in this Workshop Controller role, you'll have:
LGV Level 3 qualification (minimum requirement).
Previous experience as a Workshop Controller, Workshop Supervisor, Fleet Workshop Supervisor, HGV Workshop Controller, Automotive Workshop Manager or similar leadership role.
Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability and willingness to remain hands-on when required.
Proven experience supervising technicians within a vehicle maintenance or engineering workshop.
Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
Experience working within KPI and SLA-driven environments.
Good IT skills and experience using workshop management systems.
A sound understanding of Health & Safety legislation and quality standards.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
A full UK Driving Licence.
