Location: Manchester, M17 1EH
Salary: £46,000 - £48,400 per annum 
Hours: 45 hours per week
Monday to Friday | 8:00am - 5:30pm

Questech Recruitment are currently recruiting for an experienced Workshop Chargehand to join a leading commercial vehicle business based in Manchester.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on HGV professional looking to take the next step in their career. You'll play a key role in supporting the workshop team, ensuring vehicles are maintained to the highest standards while helping to drive productivity, quality and compliance.

The Role

As Workshop Chargehand, you will support the day-to-day running of the workshop, supervising technicians and ensuring servicing, maintenance and repairs are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standard. You will also act as a key point of contact for both customers and the workshop team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support workshop technicians to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Carry out servicing, repairs and maintenance on HGVs, RCVs and commercial vehicles.
  • Plan and allocate daily workloads to maximise workshop productivity.
  • Monitor work in progress and ensure jobs are completed within agreed timescales.
  • Prepare vehicles for DVSA inspections and HGV MOT tests.
  • Produce repair quotations and maintain excellent customer communication.
  • Complete and sign off job cards, service sheets and workshop documentation accurately.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety, housekeeping and workshop compliance.
  • Support the development and training of workshop staff.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Previous experience in a Workshop Chargehand, Senior HGV Technician or Workshop Supervisor position.
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
  • A valid HGV Licence.
  • Strong knowledge of HGV, RCV and commercial vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Excellent diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
  • The ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills.
  • A proactive approach with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Flexibility to travel and attend training courses when required.
