Assistant Quantity Surveyor - The Company

This opportunity is with a successful and growing property services contractor delivering Social Housing refurbishment, planned maintenance, retrofit and decarbonisation projects across the South West and South Wales.

Operating from established Bristol and Newport offices, the business delivers a diverse range of contracts including energy efficiency upgrades, EWI/IWI, roofing, heating replacements, painting and decorating, planned maintenance and wider refurbishment projects.

With a strong order book and continued growth, they are looking to invest in an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor who wants to build a long-term commercial career within construction.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor - The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their Quantity Surveying career.

The role would suit a recent graduate or someone who has completed a Degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a similar construction-related discipline. Some previous construction or commercial experience would be beneficial but is not essential for someone with the right attitude, strong work ethic and a genuine interest in construction.

Working alongside an experienced commercial team, you’ll receive ongoing mentoring while gaining exposure to a wide variety of refurbishment, maintenance and retrofit projects.

Typical duties will include:

• Assisting with subcontract procurement and administration
• Supporting subcontractor payments, valuations and final accounts
• Assisting with cost reporting and forecasting
• Monitoring project costs and commercial performance
• Preparing applications for payment and payment notices
• Assisting with variations and change control
• Supporting estimating and pricing activities when required
• Working closely with Site Managers and Contracts Managers
• Developing knowledge of framework contracts and Schedule of Rates
• Learning all aspects of Quantity Surveying from project award through to final account

This is an excellent opportunity to develop into a fully-fledged Quantity Surveyor within a supportive and established commercial team.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor - The Person

• Degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or another construction-related discipline
• Some construction industry or commercial experience would be advantageous but is not essential
• Good understanding of construction methods and a genuine interest in the industry
• Strong numerical, communication and organisational skills
• Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop
• Ambitious and looking for a long-term career in Quantity Surveying
• Full UK driving licence preferred
• Must currently live within the Greater Bristol area
