We are working with an established and rapidly growing construction and facilities management business that is looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support a growing portfolio of projects across a range of sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Junior Quantity Surveyor to develop their commercial and cost management experience while working alongside experienced construction and commercial professionals.

About the Role

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will play an important role in supporting the commercial delivery of a variety of construction projects, working across sectors including education, healthcare, retail and commercial.

You will use your analytical and commercial skills to support project teams with cost management, valuations, forecasting, estimating and tendering, while developing strong relationships with clients, contractors, subcontractors and consultants.

The role will involve projects up to approximately £3m in value and will provide excellent exposure to the wider commercial management process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the review of construction drawings and plans, identifying quantity and cost requirements.
  • Support Quantity Surveyors and site-based contract teams with commercial and cost management activities.
  • Assist with the validation and valuation of works, including forecasting and cost reporting.
  • Support the preparation and management of project budgets, reports, contracts and risk assessments.
  • Assist with estimating and WIP on Schedule of Rates (SOR) based facilities management contracts.
  • Prepare labour loading and pricing schedules for tender returns.
  • Monitor changes in design and ensure budgets and cost information are updated accordingly.
  • Liaise with site managers, clients, consultants, contractors and subcontractors to ensure effective communication and commercial coordination.
  • Help establish and maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attend construction sites as required to support project delivery and resolve commercial or on-site issues.
  • Contribute to the successful commercial delivery of multiple projects within a fast-paced environment.

About You

We are looking for an analytical and commercially minded Assistant Quantity Surveyor with excellent attention to detail and a genuine interest in developing a career within construction commercial management.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience or a sound understanding of quantity surveying, cost management or commercial management within the construction industry.
  • Experience working on projects up to approximately £3m in value.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail when working with costs and measurements.
  • The ability to organise, prioritise and manage deadlines effectively.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive working relationships with clients, contractors, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
  • UK construction estimating experience and/or experience within the facilities management sector would be advantageous.
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline would be desirable.
  • A valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites when required.
