Are you a creative and compassionate tutor with experience supporting adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities or mental health needs? Do you believe that art can build confidence, improve wellbeing and encourage independence?
We're recruiting for an Associate Tutor – Art & Creative Learning to join a specialist education service in London, Greater London. This is a rewarding opportunity to use your artistic skills to help learners express themselves, develop practical abilities and achieve their personal goals in a supportive and inclusive environment.
The Role
As an Associate Tutor, you'll design and deliver engaging, accessible art sessions tailored to the individual needs of adults with a range of learning, physical and mental health disabilities. Your sessions will encourage creativity, improve emotional wellbeing and help learners develop confidence, communication and everyday life skills.
Working alongside support staff and carers, you'll ensure every learner has the opportunity to participate, succeed and enjoy a positive learning experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive art and creative learning sessions.
- Prepare Schemes of Work, lesson plans and learner evaluations.
- Adapt teaching methods, resources and communication styles to meet a wide range of learning needs.
- Create a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where learners feel confident to express themselves.
- Support learners to develop communication, social interaction and independent living skills.
- Encourage participation in creative projects and community-based activities.
- Work collaboratively with support staff, carers and colleagues to provide holistic learner support.
- Monitor learner progress and maintain accurate records and individual learning plans.
- Promote equality, dignity, diversity and inclusion in every session.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and ensure the wellbeing of vulnerable adults at all times.
- Use positive behaviour support strategies to encourage engagement and manage challenging situations effectively.
- Motivate learners to achieve personal goals and celebrate their progress and achievements.
About You
To be successful in this role, you'll have:
- Experience teaching or supporting adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and/or mental health needs.
- A passion for art, creativity and inclusive education.
- The ability to adapt teaching approaches to suit individual learning styles and abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience planning and delivering structured learning sessions.
- A patient, encouraging and person-centred approach.
- Good organisational skills and experience maintaining learner records.
- Knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable adults and professional boundaries.
- A teaching qualification and/or qualification in Art or Creative Practice is desirable but not essential for candidates with relevant experience.
