Building Engineer (Plumbing Multi-Skilled)
Location: Kingston upon Thames
Salary: £32,000 - £36,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
On-Call: 1 week in every 6-8 weeks (£300 standby payment plus additional call-out payments)
Overtime: Available
About the Role
We are recruiting for a skilled Building Engineer (Plumbing Multi-Skilled) to join a busy facilities maintenance team supporting a prestigious university campus in Kingston.
This role is ideal for an experienced maintenance professional with strong plumbing knowledge and a broad understanding of building services. You will be responsible for delivering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the university's buildings and facilities.
Using a PDA and CAFM system (Planon), you will manage maintenance tasks, respond to faults, and help maintain a high standard of service across the campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
- Diagnose, repair and maintain plumbing systems, fixtures and associated plant.
- Perform basic mechanical maintenance and fault-finding across building services equipment.
- Interpret technical drawings, manuals and maintenance documentation.
- Assist with the operation and monitoring of building management and control systems.
- Investigate and resolve maintenance issues quickly to minimise disruption.
- Supervise and monitor specialist contractors on site.
- Accurately update maintenance records using PDA and CAFM systems.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and site procedures.
- Deliver a professional and customer-focused service to students, staff and visitors.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience within building maintenance, facilities management or commercial property maintenance.
- Strong plumbing maintenance and fault-finding experience.
- Good understanding of mechanical building services.
- Experience carrying out PPMs and reactive maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and maintenance manuals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- 5+ years' maintenance experience.
- Experience within educational, commercial, healthcare or public-sector environments.
- Knowledge of CAFM systems, particularly Planon.
- Experience with BMS, controls or logic controllers.
- Relevant plumbing or mechanical qualifications.
