Hours: Full-time, 39 hours per week, worked flexibly
Location: Field-based, with extensive UK travel and occasional attendance at company offices or manufacturing facilities

The Opportunity

An established manufacturer of commercial trailers and transport solutions is looking to recruit an ambitious, commercially driven Business Development Manager to support its continued growth across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced B2B sales professional to win new business, develop strategic customer relationships and increase sales across the haulage, logistics, distribution and wider transport sectors.

You will take responsibility for identifying new commercial opportunities, developing a strong sales pipeline and managing customer relationships from initial prospecting through to negotiation and order placement.

Working closely with the Sales Director and internal departments, you will help customers identify the right trailer solutions for their operational requirements, fleet investment plans and long-term business objectives.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in field sales, business development or commercial account management. Experience within trailer manufacturing, commercial vehicles, fleet sales, transport or logistics would be particularly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & New Sales

  • Identify, target and secure new business opportunities across the UK.

  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective customers across haulage, logistics, distribution, retail and transport.

  • Research target markets, fleet operators and potential customers to identify commercial opportunities.

  • Generate new business through telephone prospecting, networking, referrals, industry events and face-to-face meetings.

  • Develop relationships with senior decision-makers, including Fleet Directors, Transport Directors, Procurement Managers, Operations Directors and business owners.

  • Arrange customer visits, deliver sales presentations and lead commercial negotiations.

  • Understand customer fleet requirements and recommend appropriate trailer specifications and solutions.

  • Manage opportunities from initial contact through to quotation, negotiation and order placement.

  • Achieve agreed sales, revenue, margin and customer acquisition targets.

Commercial & Sales Management

  • Prepare quotations, proposals and commercial offers in line with pricing procedures.

  • Negotiate pricing, product specifications, delivery expectations and contractual terms to secure profitable business.

  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts, CRM records and pipeline information.

  • Monitor performance against targets and proactively identify ways to improve results.

  • Keep up to date with competitor activity, market pricing and developments in the trailer sector.

  • Report regularly to the Sales Director on pipeline activity, customer demand and market conditions.

  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, production and other internal departments to support successful order delivery.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience in B2B business development, field sales or commercial account management.

  • A strong track record of winning new business and achieving sales targets.

  • Experience negotiating commercial agreements, pricing and margins.

  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.

  • Confidence engaging with senior decision-makers and managing complex sales opportunities.

  • Self-motivated and capable of managing a field-based workload independently.

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and CRM systems.

  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK.

Desirable

  • Experience in trailer manufacturing, trailer sales, commercial vehicles or fleet solutions.

  • Knowledge of the UK haulage, transport, distribution or logistics sectors.

  • Established relationships with national or regional fleet operators.

  • Experience selling capital equipment or high-value manufactured products.

  • Understanding of trailer specifications, fleet replacement programmes and purchasing cycles.

Personal Attributes

You will be commercially minded, ambitious and results-focused, with the confidence to build relationships and develop new business opportunities.

You should be a proactive and resilient salesperson, comfortable negotiating at senior level, managing a varied customer portfolio and working independently towards challenging targets.

A professional approach, strong customer focus and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams will be essential.

If you're an ambitious B2B sales professional with experience winning new business and developing commercial relationships, we'd like to hear from you.
