Client Manager – Accountancy Practice (Remote)

Salary: £45,000 – £60,000 DOE

Location: Fully remote (UK-based)

Job type: Permanent, full-time

The Opportunity

We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established accountancy practice for an experienced Client Manager to take ownership of a select portfolio of high-value clients. This isn't a volume-driven SME compliance role — you'll be the day-to-day lead for 5–6 significant clients turning over circa £1–4 million, acting as their trusted advisor and main point of contact within the practice.

This role suits someone who thrives on deep, high-touch relationships rather than juggling a large caseload — someone who can operate confidently in the boardroom, anticipate client needs before they're raised, and bring genuine commercial insight to every conversation.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Managing end-to-end relationships for a focused portfolio of 5–6 higher-turnover clients (£1m–£4m), acting as their primary contact and trusted adviser
  • Overseeing the delivery of accounts, tax, and compliance work for your portfolio, reviewing output prepared by junior team members
  • Building deep commercial understanding of each client's business, sector, and goals — going beyond compliance to provide proactive, value-added advice
  • Leading client meetings and communications with confidence, including with owners, directors, and finance leads
  • Identifying opportunities to add value and cross-sell additional services across the practice
  • Ensuring an exceptional standard of client service, responsiveness, and technical accuracy at all times
  • Managing budgets, billing, and profitability for your client portfolio
  • Mentoring and reviewing the work of junior accountants supporting your clients

What We're Looking For

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
  • Proven experience managing higher-value clients (ideally £1m+ turnover) within a practice environment
  • Excellent client relationship management skills — comfortable operating at owner/director level
  • Strong technical accounting and tax knowledge, with sound commercial judgement
  • A proactive, advisory mindset rather than a purely compliance-driven approach
  • Confident, articulate communicator with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage a smaller, higher-value portfolio with real ownership and accountability

Why Apply

  • Genuine autonomy over a focused, high-quality client portfolio
  • Fully remote working
  • The chance to build long-term, strategic relationships with substantial businesses, rather than high-volume SME work
  • [Add specific benefits: flexible hours / study support / bonus / pension / holiday allowance, etc.]
