CNC Machinist Setter Operator / Conventional Machinist

PM Shift - Monday to Thursday
Salary: £27,851 - £34,278 per annum (DOE) + 15% Shift Allowance

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and versatile CNC Machinist Setter Operator / Conventional Machinist to join a precision engineering manufacturing environment.

This role would suit a skilled machinist with experience in CNC programming, setting and operating, alongside strong manual machining capabilities. You will be responsible for producing high-quality components to tight tolerances, working from engineering drawings and technical specifications within a low-volume, high-precision environment.

You will play an important role within the production team, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately and efficiently while maintaining excellent quality standards.



Working Hours

PM Shift - 37.5 hours per week

  • Monday to Wednesday: 1:30pm - 11:30pm
  • Thursday: 1:30pm - 11:00pm
  • Friday: Non-working day


Key Responsibilities



CNC Machining Duties

  • Program, set and operate CNC machines using G-code and/or CAM software.
  • Set up CNC machining centres and select appropriate tooling.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Adjust programmes, offsets, speeds and feeds to maintain accuracy.
  • Carry out first-off inspections and in-process quality checks.
  • Produce precision components to required tolerances and standards.


Manual Machining Duties

  • Operate conventional/manual machinery including lathes, milling machines and drills.
  • Manufacture one-off and low-volume components as required.
  • Carry out deburring and finishing operations to meet customer specifications.
  • Support a flexible production environment where priorities can change.


General Responsibilities

  • Complete job cards and production documentation accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
  • Work closely with engineering and quality teams to resolve issues.
  • Contribute towards continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure consistently high standards of workmanship and productivity.


Essential Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in CNC programming, setting and operating.
  • Strong manual machining experience.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Good knowledge of geometric tolerancing and surface finishes.
  • Experience machining a range of materials including stainless steel, mild steel and aluminium.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.


Desirable Experience

  • Experience using Fanuc, Siemens or similar CNC controls.
  • Experience with CAM software such as EdgeCAM or equivalent.
  • Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Background working in low-volume, high-precision manufacturing.
