Commissioning Manager – Electrical Bias – Freelance

Location:                           Central London initially, then Central Cambridge

We are currently seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager with a strong Electrical bias to join an established and highly regarded building services commissioning management company on a long-term freelance basis.

The successful candidate will initially support and manage the commissioning of several high-profile commercial office projects across Central London, working closely with clients, consultants, contractors and specialist commissioning teams to ensure all electrical building services are delivered, tested and commissioned to the required standards.

From December 2026, the successful candidate will transition onto a major large-scale project in Central Cambridge, taking a key role in overseeing the commissioning management process through the various stages of construction, testing, commissioning and handover.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Commissioning Manager looking for a long-term freelance contract across two prestigious project locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate all electrical commissioning activities across assigned projects.
  • Develop and maintain commissioning programmes, ensuring key milestones are achieved.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities between M&E contractors, specialist subcontractors, consultants and the client team.
  • Review commissioning strategies, plans, method statements, inspection and testing documentation.
  • Monitor progress on site and identify potential commissioning risks, delays and technical issues.
  • Attend commissioning, progress and technical meetings and workshops.
  • Ensure electrical systems are fully tested, commissioned and operational in accordance with project requirements.
  • Oversee functional performance testing and integrated systems testing where applicable.
  • Review commissioning records, test certificates, O&M information and handover documentation.
  • Assist with the identification and resolution of defects and commissioning-related issues.
  • Ensure commissioning activities are carried out in accordance with relevant British Standards, project specifications and industry best practice.
  • Provide regular progress reports to the client and commissioning management team.
  • Support the successful completion and handover of projects within programme.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical commissioning and building services, ideally gained within commercial, mission-critical, high-specification or large-scale construction environments.

You should have:

  • Proven experience working as a Commissioning Manager or Senior Commissioning Manager.
  • A strong Electrical bias, with detailed knowledge of LV electrical systems and associated building services.
  • Previous experience managing commissioning activities on major commercial projects.
  • Excellent knowledge of commissioning processes, testing and handover requirements.
  • The ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and specialist subcontractors.
  • Strong organisational, communication and leadership skills.
  • The confidence to work independently and take ownership of commissioning activities.
  • Experience working within client-facing environments.
  • A strong understanding of project programmes, construction sequencing and commissioning requirements.
  • Relevant electrical/building services qualifications and demonstrable commissioning experience.
