JHR Recruitment is working in partnership with a well-established national construction and property services contractor to recruit an experienced Estimator for their South West team.
Our client delivers a diverse range of projects across the public and private sectors, including refurbishment, building fabric, maintenance and new build works within education, healthcare, defence, commercial and critical infrastructure environments.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Estimator looking to join a financially secure business with a strong pipeline of work, genuine career progression opportunities and the chance to work on projects valued from £50,000 through to £10 million.
The Role
As Estimator, you will take ownership of multiple tenders simultaneously, managing the process from initial enquiry through to submission and handover to the operational team.
Projects will predominantly involve refurbishment, building fabric and construction works across a range of occupied and live environments.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing tender documentation and assessing project scope
- Carrying out detailed take-offs and measurements
- Producing Bills of Quantities (BoQs)
- Attending site visits and pre-tender meetings
- Obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Preparing accurate cost plans and tender submissions
- Identifying risks, opportunities, exclusions and clarifications
- Ensuring tenders are commercially competitive and technically compliant
- Managing multiple live tenders at varying stages
- Presenting estimates for internal review and approval
- Supporting the successful handover of secured projects to delivery teams
About You
To be considered, you will have:
- Previous experience working as an Estimator within refurbishment, construction, building fabric or new build projects
- Strong understanding of measurement and take-off processes
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation
- Experience managing multiple tenders simultaneously
- Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Excel
Desirable:
- Experience using Microsoft Project
- Experience pricing works within public sector environments
