Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Contract Duration: 3 Months (Short-Term Ongoing)
Location: Heanor
Rate: £35-£40 per hour (Outside IR35)
Are you an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Technician looking for your next contract opportunity?

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join a busy industrial site in Heanor on an initial 3-month contract. This is an Outside IR35 assignment offering excellent rates and the potential for ongoing work.

The role is heavily mechanically biased, focusing on valves, pumps, pipework, mechanical repairs, and plant maintenance, with occasional basic electrical fault-finding support.

Key Responsibilities - Mechanical Maintenance Technician

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on plant and equipment.
  • Diagnose faults and complete strip-downs, repairs, overhauls, and rebuilds of valves, pumps, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on pipework, fittings, and associated mechanical systems.
  • Respond effectively to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
  • Assist with basic electrical fault-finding on motors, sensors, and control equipment when required.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and modification activities across site.
  • Complete maintenance records and documentation accurately.
  • Ensure all activities comply with health & safety regulations, permit-to-work systems, and confined space procedures.
  • Work closely with operations and engineering teams to maximise plant reliability and performance.

Skills & Experience Required - Mechanical Maintenance Technician

  • Proven experience within an industrial, manufacturing, process, utilities, or heavy engineering environment.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrable experience working on:
    • Valves
    • Pumps
    • Pipework
    • Mechanical assemblies
    • Rotating equipment
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults.
  • Basic electrical fault-finding knowledge.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship, or equivalent Mechanical Engineering qualification.

Advantageous Certifications

  • IPAF Licence
  • Confined Space Certification
  • Permit to Work Experience

Desirable Experience

  • Process manufacturing environments
  • Utilities, water treatment, energy, or heavy industrial sites
  • CMMS maintenance systems
  • Shutdowns, outages, and project-based maintenance work
