Dimensional Inspector

We are seeking an experienced Dimensional Inspector / CMM Programmer to support the delivery of key engineering and manufacturing inspection activities. This role is ideally suited to candidates with a strong background in dimensional metrology, CMM programming and inspection processes within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment. Requirements

Please note: Active DV (Developed Vetting) clearance is a mandatory requirement for this position. Only candidates holding current DV clearance will be considered.

  • Completion of a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship.
  • HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related discipline. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
  • Previous experience programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).
  • Strong understanding of inspection methodologies, quality processes and production environments.
  • Experience using a range of inspection equipment and setting up components and assemblies for inspection.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T requirements and technical specifications.
  • Understanding of measurement techniques, including basic measurement uncertainty analysis.
  • Experience using CAD models and model-based inspection methods.
  • Knowledge of non-conformance reporting and product status management.
  • Familiarity with inspection quality tools, systems, procedures and best practices.
  • Understanding of problem-solving and continuous improvement techniques, including Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Yellow Belt or Green Belt certification would be advantageous.
Desirable Experience
  • Knowledge of QUINDOS programming software.
  • Experience with PC-DMIS programming.
  • Previous experience within dimensional metrology, precision manufacturing, aerospace, defence, nuclear or similar highly regulated industries.
Scope of Work

The successful candidate will be responsible for completing inspection and programming activities against a defined order book. The role will primarily involve the development and execution of QUINDOS programmes for the dimensional inspection of engineered components and shells using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).

Whilst QUINDOS experience is preferred, applicants with strong PC-DMIS programming experience and a solid background in CMM inspection technology are encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Programming and operating CMM equipment.
  • Conducting dimensional inspections of manufactured components.
  • Producing accurate inspection reports and managing non-conformance documentation.
  • Supporting quality, manufacturing and engineering teams in the verification of product conformity.
  • Ensuring inspection activities are completed in line with technical specifications and project requirements.

Specific deliverables and task requirements will be agreed at the commencement of each assignment.
