We’re the only dedicated emergency referral hospital in Central Queensland, based in Rockhampton and supporting more than 15 veterinary practices across a 330km radius. After 18 months of building the service and strong relationships with the local veterinary community, we’re ready to grow the team.

The role

This is emergency medicine, with plenty of variety and no appointment-booking monotony. You’ll manage emergency consultations, hospitalised patients, medical and surgical cases, critical care patients and referrals.

Caseloads generally average 7 patients per shift with the occasional busier shift, particularly in summer when Queensland's wildlife decides to keep everyone on their toes.

You'll usually work sole charge, but you're not on your own. You'll have 1-2 experienced nurses around you, access to an on-call vet, and ongoing clinical guidance whenever you need it. 

What's on offer?

• $188,000+ AUD for the right experienced candidate.
• Full-time or part-time, approximately 27–38 hours per week.
• 10–13.5-hour shifts across weeknights, weekends, and public holidays.
• No on-call. No home visits.
• 5 weeks annual leave + 1 week study leave.
• CPD allowance, uniform, use of a car and staff pet discounts.

• Travel assistance may be considered.
• Purpose-built emergency facility.
• Equipment less than two years old, including ultrasound, endoscopy and high-end multiparameters.
• A varied caseload including dogs, cats, wildlife and exotics.
• Mentorship and clinical support.

You?

Ideally, you'll have 5+ years' experience, including some emergency or referral work. We'll also consider vets with strong GP backgrounds or experience in a referral setting.

We're looking for someone clinically confident, calm under pressure, and comfortable making decisions independently, but who also knows when to pick up the phone and ask for another opinion.

You can be on the beach within 30 minutes, spend your days off fishing, diving, golfing, mountain biking or exploring the great outdoors, and enjoy the kind of sunshine that makes a British winter feel like a distant memory. With the Keppel Islands, Byfield National Park, Great Barrier Reef and Whitsundays all within reach, there’s certainly no shortage of places to explore.
